Kindergartners Have a Great Day at the SC Zoo!

Clad in lime green, hand print
T-shirts, kindergartners set out on the big activity bus to see the
Sedgwick County Zoo last Thursday. Wonderful weather and many
parents and grandparents helped make this day a success.
Students enjoyed the giraffes, goats and
gorillas. The lions were very active on this day and stood to
welcome many with huge roars. The bears also were up and pacing.
One stood up on two legs and shook the branches of a tree trying to
catch something hiding from him. Students decided that it was smart
to hide from a grizzly bear.
Kindergartners were in awe of the jungle
and its constant humidity. We loved seeing the three toed sloth in
action. From our study of the rain forest, we know that the sloth
hangs upside down in the tree all day doing nothing. Ask your
student how often he comes down to the ground, and what happens
when he is down!
Children and parents enjoyed sack lunches
out in the sunshine before checking out more animals. Some folks
hopped on the tram to rest tired legs in the afternoon then snacked
on cookies and pop before boarding the bus for home. Many,
including parents, enjoyed the ride home immensely, with their eyes
closed!
