High School: Counselor's Corner

Graduation Requirements

Students are required to have successfully completed (passed) 24 credits of high school units in order to qualify for graduation. These include:

1) Four Units of Language Arts (English): English I, English II, English III, and English IV.
           a. A student shall be enrolled in an English Language Arts course each semester in attendance.

2) Four units of Social Studies which shall include:
           a. Civics - 9/Economics
           b.  United States (American) History
           c.  World Studies
           d. American Government/Senior Project

3) Three units of Science *
           a.  Physical Science (9th Grade)
           b.  Biology I (10th Grade)
           c.  A third year of science is required. (Biology II, Chemistry,
                or Physics, and Environmental Science) *

4) Three units of Mathematics
           a.  Each freshman will be enrolled in one of the following: Applied Math I, Algebra I or Geometry, and Math for Daily Living.
           b. A second year of math in the 10th grade is required: Applied Math II, Geometry or Algebra II.
           c. A third year of math in the 11th grade is required: Geometry, Algebra II,
                or Advanced Math.
           d. It is highly recommended that students enroll in a fourth math course during their senior year: Algebra II, Advanced Math, Calculus, or College Algebra

5) One half unit of Physical Education (9th Grade)
     One half unit of Health (9th Grade)
            a.  Upon a statement by a licensed physician that a pupil is mentally or
                 physically incapable of participation in a regular or modified physical
                 education program this requirement may be waived.

6) One credit of Computer Application I is required. One credit of Computer 
     Applications II is recommended.

7) One credit in the Fine arts is required for graduation. (Music, Art, Drama, Forensics) *

8) Six (6) elective units of course work (to be enrolled in and passed during grades 9-12)

9) Special Education students will be accorded equal treatment under these policies. 
     All state and local guidelines for graduation of Special Education students will be
     followed.

10) Students who fail to complete the local school board criteria and state standards
       
will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony.

11) All fees, fines, and obligations shall be fulfilled before a student will be allowed to
       graduate or receive his/her diploma.

* These requirements begin with the freshman class of 2005-06.
