High School Students Attend SC Choral Festival

by Andrea Mendoza

October 01, 2008

Five Udall High School students attended a choral festival at Southwestern College on Monday where they joined around 200 other students from area schools in polishing three songs they need to know in order to audition for District Honor Choir. District Honor Choir auditions are in early November.  Students that attended were Charice Bryant, Kendra Burton, Jenna Kistler, Kayla Moore, and Chanea Sawyer.

The day started at 9:00 with donuts, juice and a welcome from the Music Department Chair and the President of the college. After moving to Grace United Methodist Church, the students started warming up and then split into sectionals where they went over their individual parts. Then the whole choir met together and practiced. They broke for lunch around noon and afterwards were entertained by the SC 9-Lives Improvisational Comedy Troupe before heading back for yet some more practice. The day ended with a 4:30PM concert where the SC A Capella Choir and SC Singers performed several numbers each, as well as a jazz number by three faculty. The mass high school choir performed last and did a magnificent job. Other schools that attended were Arkansas City, Winfield, Central of Burden, and Wichita Heights.
