The 2008 Udall high school football season came to end last Tuesday night, as the Udall Eagles were eliminated from the state playoffs by the Claflin Wildcats, 54-8. The loss ended a very successful season for the Eagles, as they finished with an overall record of 8-2, as well as being District Three Champions, and advancing to the state playoffs for the first time in approximately twenty years. The Claflin Wildcats, who are a perennial playoff team, proved to be too much for the Eagles, as their spread offensive attack, seemed nearly impossible to stop on the night. After only trailing by the score of 8-0 after the first quarter, Claflin took advantage of three Udall turnovers, and exploded for 40 second quarter points. The Eagles were able to get on the scoreboard in the second quarter, as Skylor Kistler scored on a three yard touchdown run, and Taylor Camp successfully converted the two-point conversion. However, the Wildcats proved to be better team, as they ended the game with 8-minutes remaining in the third quarter, thus putting an end to the Eagles’ season. Michael Carselowey finished off his wonderful career for the Eagles, by rushing for 39-yards, while also leading the team with 19 total tackles on the night. The loss also marked the final time that seniors: Colton Sawyer, Eli Williams, and Colton Schoonover will put on an Udall Eagle uniform. Despite the loss, the team did everything that it could to make the Udall community, school, coaches, and parents proud, as they should go down as one of the best teams in Udall High School football history. The team will now look to continue this season’s success next year, as they return a solid nucleus of players, including returning starters: Skylor Kistler, Taylor Camp, Dylan Smith, Ryan Floyd, John Baldwin, and Jarek Brill, and key reserves: Devan Rueger and Jared Bashaw. Overall, this was a great bunch of guys to work with, and the coaching staff looks forward to working with the team again next season. If you see any of the guys, make sure to let them know how proud we are of all of them, and to congratulate them on their wonderful season!
