“Oh, I Love America” Music Program
by Andrea Mendoza & Rebecca Leiblie
November 17, 2008
Tuesday evening, November 11th, patriotic music streamed from the gymnasium as 200 elementary students put on their fall music program, celebrating our wonderful country. The program entitled, “Oh, I Love America,” included well-known patriotic songs such as, “America”, “You’re a Grand Old Flag”, “America the Beautiful”, and “This Land is Your Land.” It also included lesser-known songs about America.
To start, the 5th grade band played four selections. They have made enormous progress since their last program three weeks ago.
Next, the students formed an American flag out of the color of T-shirts they wore as they stood on the gymnasium floor. They sung a couple of songs all together. Each grade had the chance to shine as they sang a couple of songs by themselves. As it was Veteran’s Day, the students and audience honored those who had served with a round of applause, followed by a song entitled “Thank a Vet.” The lyrics talked about how if we loved our country, or if we cherished our freedoms, we owe it to our veterans. Students closed with an upbeat, rocking song titled “All American Me and You.”
The students all sang out and did a wonderful job! Mrs. Mendoza would once again like to thank everyone who came to the program to support the children and the arts. Music is such an important part of a child’s life and an important part of our community.
"The program ended to sincere applause from everyone in the audience. Mrs. Mendoza was met by a line of parents, grandparents, and community members who couldn't wait to extend their congratulations on a job well done. As a parent, I have to say this was one of the best programs our school has performed and I encourage everyone in the community to attend the next performance." (Rebecca Leiblie)
Make sure you mark your calendars for the next K-5 program, which will take place March 10, 2009 at 7PM.
