What a great end to an AMAZING 6th grade year!  Ice cream from Hive and Hearth and some sand volleyball at the park!  A day of problem solving and experimenting with rockets!... The last day summer theme party was filled with a ticket drawing filled with summer fun activities, balloon volleyball with my favorite 6th grade team teacher, Kona ice provided by the school and autograph signing and sharing special memories.  This group has a BRIGHT future!  Enjoy the summer! #EagleStrong!

Canyon Carson and James Barton recently spent time with professionals in their prospective career fields. Both have been invited to return and spend more time with their gracious hosts. Canyon has traveled to the Abilene Railroad training yard twice so far, with engineer Chuck Dugnolle, and other crew members. His experiences have included getting to speak with several engineers, as well as basic training that encompassed safety rules, loading trains, basic controls, diesel engines, and track safety. He also learned how to work the lone switch, and just received word that his volunteer application was accepted so he can start volunteering there this summer. James got to meet and work with several Evergy office staff and field crew in April. After an office tour and Lineman Appreciation breakfast, he was sent out into the field to experience a day in the life of linemen, who tend to everything from small repair jobs to install jobs at new construction sites. He also got to ride and control the boom, was treated to lunch, and was sent home with a high res jacket, hardhat, and ball cap. He plans to apply for an internship or pre-apprentice position with them in the summer or fall.
